Auto-aim lets you play the entire game without using a second thumbstick on your controller, and it can be toggled on or off in the Options Menu. According to D-Pad Studio's Anniversary Update announcement, the feature was added alongside a toggle so players can switch it on or off whenever they prefer.

Why the Feature Was Added

In an earlier Coming Soon announcement, D-Pad Studio said it had read player feedback and found that many people considered the controllers finicky, especially because the game required two thumbsticks. The studio described auto-aim as making the game playable without a second thumbstick and more accessible across a wider range of controllers. That same post notes that the update also added toggles for screenshakes and flashes, and that shooting, attacking, or picking up objects can be mapped to the XYZ keys, which together with auto-aim should allow playing the entire game with a keyboard only.

Turning It On or Off

The toggle lives in the Options Menu. The Anniversary Update announcement lists "Auto-aim can now be toggled on/off in the Options Menu" among the key additions. The same post also confirms separate toggles for screenshake, flash effects, and "Drop Gunner On Dodge." The exact menu layout beyond this is not officially documented, so check the Options Menu after updating.

Manual Aiming Still Works

Turning auto-aim on does not remove manual control. According to the Coming Soon announcement, you can still use a second thumbstick for precise aiming as before. In practice, this means auto-aim handles targeting for general play while the stick remains available when you want finer aim.

Quick Reference

  • Toggle location: Options Menu.
  • Default state: not officially documented.
  • Manual aim: still available with the second thumbstick.
  • Related toggles: screenshake and flash effects, both in the Options Menu.

Players who prefer the original two-thumbstick setup can simply leave auto-aim off, while those using controllers without a second stick can turn it on for the whole adventure.
